Pearl River Cruise
Tonight we enjoyed a cruise on the Pearl River. It was a wonderful time. Last trip, we discovered a more authentic boat that is a dragon ship. We were the only foreigners on the ship and it wasn't at all crowded which always makes it so love.
Keeping Busy
We are just waiting for Ellie's paperwork to pass through US immigration so that her visa will be issued. We are doing are best to keep busy , but we are ready to be home. Tomorrow is our consulate appointment and then we will have the visa in our hand on Thursday. It can't come soon enough. We enjoyed a park today and it passed the time well.

Inspiring
Tonight I noticed a couple in their late fifties with a southern draw sitting near the pool. There was also a very handsome twelve year old Chinese young man quietly swimming alone amidst a group of large siblings with their new eleven year old brother. The quiet twelve year old sat to the side and I assumed, being recently adopted, that he spoke no English so he sat alone. Soon I saw that fifty something man approach the quiet boy and I watched a huge smile erupt on his face as he called Baba (Daddy in Mandarin). The fifty something father swam with and wrestled his new son all the while this boy, new to having a father, beamed! The fifty something momma approached us and shared their story. They have adult children, five grandchildren, an empty nest, and , by the looks of it, plenty of love to share so instead of choosing to collect shells or golf... they are opening up their family to this handsome, bright young man. At a time when their friends are vacationing, grand parenting, and retiring.. they are answering God's call to care for the least. It is absolutely inspirational to see the gospel in action right here in this land! How might God use this young life because his mom and dad said yes to following God's leading. You can bet I am in tears watching the example of this couple and so inspired watching them love their new son.
The Boy at the Pool
Tonight I saw an eleven year old boy swim for the first time. I wish you could have been there. He had the cutest, most innocent smile as he was surrounded by his five new siblings. I watched his new blonde brother patiently coax him in the water while his new momma held his hand. Then I saw him release and stand independently on the bottom of the pool floor while his face absolutely erupted with joy. This was the picture of a physical new birth this Easter evening right before my eyes. This eleven year old boy, who has waited far too long for a family, being accepted, loved, and wanted by his new tribe experiencing fully the benefits of being a loved and cherished son. It brought tears to my eyes. He waited eleven, long years, but all I could see in his eyes was pure JOY at being near to his people experiencing the water..a wanted treasure.
Easter on the Island
We were a bit late for church this morning on Shaiman Island, but we did hear a bit of the sermon and the last song. It was full today and people were standing outside. Anna Mei enjoyed ice cream, eating cheese pizza at Lucy's, and posing for photos. Ellie Grace was happy as a lark to take it in from the ergo. She is such a good baby.
Breakfast with my Babies
Breakfast here is busy and crazy so I put Ellie in a high chair this morning. I have never used a high chair in China, but Ellie did great! She was exploring and trying to get into everyone which makes this momma so happy. She continues to tolerate my giving her a few bites of food too. She almost always has spit it out, but takes it from the spoon. This morning she had a bite of yogurt and some syrup.

On Your Fourth Gotcha Day
Dear Anna Mei,
Yesterday was your fourth Gotcha Day. It is so very special that we get to be in the land of your birth to celebrate this wonderful day together. You love your Gotcha Day because you love to be celebrated and yesterday was not different. We had a special box of chocolates from the hotel bakery, cheese pizza from room service, and then we went swimming. You were happy with all you got to do and assured me you loved celebrating your day. We then spent the evening, like we always do on this day, reading you travel journal from my blog. It is such a gift to have all of my thoughts recorded there for you. Watching your face light up as you saw yourself as a baby on the very stairs in this hotel, in front of the exact dresser in our hotel room, and laying on the very same carpet that we are now walking on was priceless. You talked and talked about it all evening. You love having my words read to you about your early life and I love sharing them. Today I see you as a remarkable young woman who is growing up before my eyes. You are a natural momma caring for and loving on Ellie Grace every chance you get. You have such an understanding of the world too. One that is far beyond your age. You are passionate and love deeply. Your are silly and love to laugh. In the front, leading is your favorite place to be. You inspire me everyday to do more and be better because of how closely you watch me and learn. I love you and count being your momma as one of the greatest blessings of my life. Happy four years home my treasure! I love you!
Looking to the Future
I really can't explain it, but this place doing this work of claiming one more precious girl is the reason I'm alive. Being here, being used by God to be a small part of the redemption of this little one, is the thrill of my life. It is hard to imagine a time in my life when this, welcoming more home, does not exist, but deep down I know that each of God's purposes for my life have lasted for only a season. What might a season look and feel like that does not include adoption? I have no idea, but it is hard to imagine anything that could make me feel more alive than this does. I have said before that many people live their entire lives searching for their purpose. These babies have given me mine, and I am grateful to God for inviting me to do this work because truly through this I have experienced Jesus in ways I never could have if I hadn't said yes to this. I have been stretched and pulled by the Lord through this. I have seen miracles which I never could have dreamed would be. I have grown a love and passion for the fatherless that I never would have known. So as the trip wraps up this week, I don't know what the future holds, but I pray that I am willing to lay this season of my life before the Lord so that I may continue to live in His will knowing that His plans for me are bigger than I could ever imagine.
Her First Swim
Ellie Grace loves the water and Anna Mei was dying to swim so tonight we headed to the roof top to try it out. Ellie was a fan! She will fit in at our house just fine.

Park Visits
One thing I love about being here are the beautiful parks. We have enjoyed them and our time in Tianjin.
Exhausted
We have been waiting for our flight at the airport for 5 hours now. The girls are so tired and so are we. Praying it boards and takes off soon. We have a very early morning tomorrow.

An Entry for Anna Mei
Dear Anna Mei,
We spent some time at a park this morning. I watched you run, heard you giggle, and saw you build in the sand. I watched you, my sweet girl, from afar as I was walking the baby a bit taking in this scene of you playing in China and I just let my heart recount the events of your short life. In six years, you have faced more heartache and pain than some do their entire lives. You can talk orphanage, abandonment, adoption, and many other topics that most your age can't even begin to grasp. Despite the pain those circumstances have caused you in this life, you are healing and growing more whole everyday. This morning you played a hidden message game with me that you invented in which you declared that all in this land should know God. I took a step back out of this scene at the park this morning and I prayed that God might use you in that way.. that all in this land might one day know Him because of your life. You are absolutely extraordinary and being your mother and teaching you about the things of the Lord is a privilege. As I watched you in the sand today, I gave thanks to God for entrusting me with the gift of you. It is hard to believe that I am here in this place that I love once again claiming another Babe as ours with you. I pray this trip impacts you for many years to come. I love you with all my heart.
Pizza
Anna Mei was dying for a little pizza so we headed to Pizza Hut last night for dinner. Cheese pizza never tasted so good. Ellie Grace sat up and played with her rattles for a bit and then she was ready for a nap. She had some wild hair when she woke up. She is such an easy going little one. I know she has many significant needs and my guide is sure it will be so hard to have her in my life, but I assured her that I believe that God creates all life for a purpose. This little one is valuable and can be used by God. She deserves a family who will love and care for her. We are grateful to be that family though our sweet guide just can't understand.

Old Cultural Street
We are now finished with all of Ellie Grace's paperwork. The China side of this adoption is in the books. Ellie Grace MengPei is officially ours, but we have to wait for her passport to be processed before heading to Guangzhou to finish the US immigration side of things so we spent this morning walking the cultural streets. It is a shopping Mecca for all things Chinese. It was an adventure, but Ellie Grace slept in the ergo through it all. She is such a good baby. She even took a bit of maple syrup off my finger at breakfast and put my ice cream bar to her lips when street shopping. We have a very long way to go, but we are so grateful that God would allow us one more precious girl to love. My travel mates have been so good about occupying Anna Mei when she needs it. She is doing so well on this trip.
Her Finding Place
Visiting each of my baby's finding spots is something that I hold dear when I get the chance to do it. It is so emotional to be face to face with the location that my baby was last held by their birth family. I can't imagine what it must be like to place your baby here and walk away. I can't begin to understand the feelings or circumstances, but I am grateful for this piece of my child's past that I can hold for them until they can grab hold of it themselves.
The Eyes at the Orphanage
Yesterday I had the privilege of walking the halls of Ellie's orphanage. To come face to face with real tangible need like that is indescribable in so many ways. To see babies and children living in an institution without mothers and fathers stirs my heart like little else. It is the day after that encounter that is always the greatest struggle for me though. Despite saying that I know and love Jesus... Despite my desire to claim my willingness to give my life wholly to him..the day after finds me forgetting all that I have seen. It finds me rationalizing in my own heart that I have done enough and that more sacrifice would be too costly. It finds me questioning how I can give up my own comfort and why in the world I would even consider walking away from such a comfortable life to do more for these least. I want this short life to be about bringing Glory to God. I long to be more focused on eternity! I want my thoughts to not rest on whether or not I should forfeit my American Dream for the gospel. I wish that my own comfort and desires would more automatically take a back seat to the commands of His word and His purpose for my life, but it is always a struggle. This morning I remember the eyes of the eight year old girl staring at me from behind the sick room window. How many times has she watched a momma or daddy walk by that window with a little one and wondered if her turn will ever come? How does she sit in that hospital type bed day after day without someone beside her? And why do I, who claim Christ, let it happen? Why do my thoughts always go back to the lies in my heart...don't disrupt your family..don't give up too much...don't risk everything...you have done enough. These are the lies contrary to Jesus calling "those who loose their lives find it". I don't want to spend this short life focused on finding comfort here. I want to spend it seeking Jesus. I want to follow him to hurting, sacrifice, and even suffering because these places have held some of the greatest blessings of my life. I have found Jesus there and experienced his love and peace abundantly because this life was never meant to be about us.
Anna Mei Exploring Tianjin
The morning before getting Ellie Grace we explored the neighborhood here and found a lovely little park with a few slides. Most parks here just have outdoor space and exercise stations so we enjoyed playing a bit. We also loved watching the Monday morning life taking place. There were children walking to school, elderly exercising in the park, and men rushing off to work. Exploring this culture is always a joy, but doing it alongside Anna Mei is such a blessing.
A First for Ellie Grace
Her first bath was a huge hit! The girl loves to be naked and she loves the water. She should fit in with our bunch.

Meeting Joanne and Her Family
It is such a thrill to be here adopting next to this sweet family whom we randomly chose to donate to when Jillian collected donations from her 8th bday party. I still can't believe the circumstances that brought us together as only God could orchestrate such an amazing story! Their daughter is darling and now we have a Tianjin connection.
